Significant opposition to Sprinter Sacre at Kempton tomorrow week looks increasingly unlikely after it emerged yesterday the leading two-mile chasers were either injured, likely to reappear in the new year or remain in Ireland.

Both Sire De Grugy, impressive winner of the Tingle Creek Chase at the beginning of this month, and runner-up Somersby are likely to sidestep a first encounter with jumping's superstar in the williamhill.com Desert Orchid Chase, although racing fans who had been eagerly anticipating a festive clash may only have to wait a further three weeks to witness the three lock horns in Ascot's Sodexo Clarence House Chase on January 18.

Gary Moore, trainer of Sire De Grugy, who gave him a memorable first Grade 1 triumph when landing Sandown's Tingle Creek by four lengths from Somersby, yesterday revealed a probable change of plan and declared it unlikely his stable star would tackle last season's Queen Mother Champion Chase hero.
